New class!

Using the Institute for Excellence in Writing’s (IEW) Structure and Style method, this class will introduce the principal skills you need to craft coherent writing assignments. We will discuss such skills as using correct grammar and standard punctuation, developing effective topic and supporting sentences, organizing main points, creating keyword outlines from source documents, grabbing readers’ attention with interesting introductions. varying sentence openers and sentence structures, proofreading and editing writing samples for common errors, and creating memorable endings. 

Textbook needed: IEW’s U.S. History-Based Writing Lessons (one per family)

Families provide spiral notebook (one per student), access to Microsoft Word or Google Docs, colored highlighters or pens 

Estimated homework: 2-3 hours per week
