All else being equal on the field, track or ice, the athlete who has the most speed will win. Every athlete can improve their speed with a systematic and progressive approach. This program is designed to help each athlete reach their own personal speed potential.

The training is directed to improve reaction, starting, first-step quickness, acceleration, top speed, body awareness, change of direction, obstacle avoidance, and footwork. It incorporates both Linear Speed development and Multidimensional Speed and Agility; the two dimensions of speed the athlete must possess to be successful in their chosen sport from a speed perspective.

The athlete will learn and master:

  • Proper warm-up for speed development training to enhance performance and prevent injury

  • Posture

  • Arm action

  • Leg action

  • Correct starting mechanics

  • Correct acceleration mechanics

  • Change of direction progression

  • Proper first-step mechanics to improve first-step quickness and understanding the importance and application of footwork to effective multi-dimensional movement

  • How to apply speed to your game

Upon completion of this program – depending on the athlete’s progress, athletic profile re-test results, and personal goals – the athlete should see improvement in their basic speed on the Speed Performance Indicators. We recommend the athletes enrol in consecutive seasons in order to stabilize their improvement and to make further progress.
