Description:

Do you remember Mandrake the Magician? Perhaps you saw him at the Cave Supper Club. Leon Mandrake was a world-renowned local magician, escapologist, ventriloquist, and stunt performer who grew up in New Westminster in the 1920s and started his magic career at the age of 11. He died in 1993.

His son and daughter-in-law, Lon and Linda Mandrake, have written his biography: "The Real Mandrake the Magician”. It describes the brilliant career of Mandrake with over 100 show photos and provides a glimpse behind the scenes.

Join Lon Mandrake, who is also a magician, to hear the fascinating history of his famous father.

What was it like to live on the road, travelling with small children while constantly performing magic shows? Lon has many interesting stories about life experiences from the 1920s until the 2000s.

Lon Mandrake was a science teacher for 35 years and a president of the BC Science Teachers' Association. He was awarded the Distinguished Service to Science Education and the Excellence in Teaching Award. He was President of the Society of American Magicians Assembly # 95 and Regional Vice President for Canada of the Society of American Magicians. He also achieved the Order of Merlin in the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
