Description:
Sneak into the "bais-meant" for reflections on silence and speech, prohibition and permission in Jewish art. In this discussion, you're licensed to be loquacious and learned or learning. If you’re not a temperance leaguer, feel free to mix yourself a kosher-style cocktail (see recipe below for ideas!) and drink in some learning, speak-easy style. About Sharoni: Sharoni Sibony is an enthusiastic educator, artist, and community organizer. She teaches the Winchevsky Centre's Adult B’nai Mitzvah program, lectures/teaches at various venues, and used to run the Downtown Tikkun Leil Shavuot. The Shavuot Sour by Aaron Goldfarb According to Deut. chapter 8, “For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths, springing forth in valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig-trees and pomegranates; a land of olive-trees and honey” and Shavuot was the first day on which individuals could bring these Bikkurim (first fruits) to the Temple in Jerusalem. This cocktail brings the Bikkurim too, with a wheated bourbon, the grape-based brandy cognac, as well as fig preserves and honey for a sweetener. For individuals not wanting to use egg whites, substitute aqua faba, or just skip that ingredient altogether. 1 oz wheated bourbon (look for Maker’s Maker, Weller, or Larceny) 1 oz cognac 1 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice 0.25 oz honey 1 teaspoon fig preserve egg white Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker, without ice, and shake vigorously. Now add ice and shake again. Strain into a rocks glass with one large ice cube. We are committed to accessibility. This event will have auto-captioning. Please be in touch by email at LaurenS@mnjcc.org or by phone at 416.924.6211 to let us know about your access needs as soon as possible.
