Description: Each session is distinct at the Guelph Outdoor School. And every day has a focused project - plant identification, birch bark spoons, fire by friction, bird language, wood carving, mapping, archery, to name a few. We launch into the day with stories and gratitude at circle. This practice connects us to each other and our surroundings. We dive into full immersion: the world of red tailed hawk, eastern cottontail, of colt’s foot and coyote, until the wild is alive in our veins and our bones! A portion of the day is spent journeying the landscape: swamps, river, cedar groves, open fields, and rocky outcropping - taking time for discoveries, and the questions that go with them. Expect: dirt, scrapes, and smiles on faces; stories of the wild things just outside of town. Self-sufficiency skills, games that teach, and cooperative challenges are practiced daily in the fresh air of the forest where consequences are real and the risks are cushioned by professional and caring adults.
