Youth Singers of Calgary
Sing, Dance, Act! YSC is a vibrant performing arts company for children, teens and adults.
The Youth Singers touring program is an exciting element of our program that allows singers to experience the world, make memories with friends, and perform in a wide variety of venues and cultures. We tour every year, with tours generally alternating between JUNIOR HI (odd-numbered years) and SENIOR HI/ACT3 (even-numbered years).
YSC Tours provide singers with many opportunities for growth and development. Just a few of the benefits of touring include:
All accommodations (performers in quad; staff/travellers/tour assistants in double), airfare, ground transportation, meals, activities and admission to sight-seeing and events, basic travel medical insurance, performance costs, and all taxes and gratuities. Spending money, a passport, and a tour jacket are not included.
*Please note, all singers, staff, and TAs must have a black and silver YSC tour jacket. If you do not have one from a tour in 2015 or later, you are welcome to borrow one from another member, or you can purchase one. You will be given the option to add it to your order when you register for tour, or you can purchase at a later time.
All declined payments will be subject to a $25 NSF fee.
Yes! We welcome travelers on all of our tours! Travelers are individuals who are on tour with us but are non-performing. Parents, grandparents, siblings, spouses, and friends are welcome to join us. Travelers accompanying the tour will participate in the same scheduled activities as the singers, and everything listed above is included. Travelers can choose from single or double occupancy, and receive adult attraction passes and meals whereas singers stay in quad accommodations and get student rates. Travelers have free time in the itinerary while singers are in rehearsal and can opt out of any other activities they wish at any time.
We accept a limited number of Tour Assistants, who travel at a subsidized rate and are responsible for many duties during the tour. Apply to be a TA here! Once you have been accepted, you will have the opportunity to register and pay for tour at the TA price.
Singers must be a part of the tour group and cannot make separate arrangements. Families are welcome to travel independently; however, the activities that you may participate in will be limited. You are welcome to come and see any public performances, but may not be included in any event that is included in the tour costs and itinerary. It will be your responsibility to make arrangements for all travel, accommodations, meals, transportation, activity admission fees, etc.
The expectation is that singers going on tour will participate in all activities with their group. If a family decides to travel along with the YSC tour they are included in all plans and any deviations from the tour itinerary must be arranged with the singer's chaperone.
Yes! Because the tours involve a subset of the participating divisions, there are additional rehearsals to prepare with only the touring singers. These rehearsals are mandatory for all touring singers. Please see the tour description for details.
If you choose to withdraw, your tour fees are non-refundable. Any withdrawals impact the cost for the rest of the group. We always aim to be fair and equitable in any situation where a participant withdraws from a tour. A partial refund may be possible, but likely will not be available until the tour is finished. If Youth Singers cancels a tour, we will refund as much as we can, depending on the circumstances and timing of the cancellation.
You can earn credits toward the cost of your tours by working additional bingos beyond your contract bingos. We do not currently run any other official YSC fundraisers, but keep your eyes open for new opportunities.
When you register for tour, you may either pay in full or sign up for a payment plan (via monthly payments on a credit card). If you choose a payment plan, a deposit is due upon registration, and the balance will be split into equal payments. To apply bingo credits to your tour fees, bring your credits in to the YSC office at least 5 business days before your next scheduled payment, and they will be applied to your account
Yes! We are grateful to those that are able to do this as it helps us secure better prices and exchange rates when they are available. We begin making deposits very early and depend on this income to meet our payment deadlines.
Please note, Youth Singers does not provide trip cancellation insurance as part of your tour package. If you would like to purchase cancellation insurance, you need to make those arrangements yourself.
Most cancellation insurance must be purchased within 48-72 hours of your initial trip payment, so you need to make those arrangements at the same time as you register for tour.
Various insurance companies provide cancellation insurance in cases such as illness or natural disaster. "Cancel For Any Reason" insurance will provide the broadest coverage, but is less commonly available. Tugo is one company that has this available, but you can shop around.
Yes! There will be an opportunity much closer to your tour date to extend the end of your trip. You will be charged the difference in the flight cost and an administrative fee and will be responsible for your own meals, accommodations, and other arrangements once the tour leaves. We typically do not allow singers to leave Calgary early and join up with the tour, as there are important rehearsal dates in the week leading up to the tour, and singers must be in attendance.
