Project Backpack Program Helps Reduce Food Insecurity in Verdun

BGC Dawson is proud to be running the program for Club members in the Verdun community! At our Club, 20 Project Backpack program participants are able to share healthy foods with their families during critical times when they may not have access to healthy meals. *

* We ask that only one child per family sign up to reach as many families as possible. 

“Backpacks” will include the ingredients to make one recipe each week (a meal, lunch or dessert/snack) as well as easy to eat/make foods, such as oatmeal, fruit cups granola bars, fruits, and vegetables.

Project Backpack is a national program that provides families with food-filled backpacks that they can use to make easy, nutritious meals when Clubs or schools are unable to provide meals.

Offered to children and youth of all ages at Boys and Girls Clubs across the country, the Project Backpack program:

• Provides children and youth at risk of weekend hunger with food that they can share with their family
• Gives children and youth access to healthy meals that they can easily assemble themselves
• Offers food that is tailored to the unique needs of each child’s home situation, family structure, food sensitivities, etc.
