Pastel is undergoing a resurgence in popularity today, as more and more artists realize it’s possibilities as a medium capable of extraordinary detail and abundant expressiveness. Learn to create beautiful and vibrant soft (not oil) pastel paintings in a positive and encouraging environment. We will cover the concepts of value, chroma and intensity of color as well as how to determine what is the appropriate application for your painting whether it be a still life, landscape or portrait. We will also cover basic design elements in creating a good composition. Instructor will provide demonstrations during class over concepts we are covering.

Notes : Supplies required: A variety (in color) of soft pastels (not oil pastels). Michaels, Joannes or Hobby Lobby carry store brands that will suffice in starting out with. Mi-Teintes Canson Pastel Paper pad (9 x12”) Roll of paper towels Masking tape Hand-wipes Board to back your pastel paper with (thicker foam core board will suffice). Size should be a few inches larger than you paper all the way around. Clips or masking tape Last class will be held on Oct 25th.
