Description :

Join the VBGA’s upcoming online Teacher Pro-D Session where local artist, Katharine Dickinson, will lead a fun and insightful workshop called Drawing Nature for Educators. This participatory online workshop will explore nature through observational drawing techniques. These art practices connect students to the natural world, while encouraging ecological thinking and meaningful inquiry.

Working live, Katharine will demonstrate the basics of observational drawing and show how to coach these skills to your students. After skills practice we will discuss the curricular tie-ins for nature-based art across a range of subject areas including art, sciences, STEAM subjects, and more. Please come ready to participate at home (see materials list below) share your nature-art ideas and activities with the group. Don’t be shy—this class is for ALL drawing levels, just like your students!

Online education techniques include presentations and live overhead demonstrations.

For this workshop, participants are encouraged to have the following prepared materials at home:

  • 11x14 multimedia sketchbook (or a stack of plain paper suitable for drawing)
  • Pencils (pencil sharpener) (drawing pencils preferred but optional)
  • Eraser
