Description :

Improve your drawing and observation skills to capture the variety of late-season plants and botanical objects that blanket the forest floor in autumn.  Instructed by local artist Katharine Dickinson; her demonstrations will guide you through various exercises, including contour and gesture drawing exercises, followed by line and tonal drawing techniques. Experiment with watercolour washes, mixing colours to match the specimens’ natural colours and adding dry brush texture markings. 

Specimens: Examples of what is growing and falling to the ground in autumn, such as leaves, cones, fungi, ferns, seed pods, etc

Art supplies: Mechanical Pencil 0.5 and an HB pencil, multimedia sketchbook, newsprint or printing paper (for drawing exercises), paint palette (white ceramic plate), watercolour paint set (Windsor & Newton or similar), set of watercolour brushes or #1, #4 and #6 (round with a point)

This three-session course will take place online on October 19, 26 & November 2. Recordings will be available for a limited time to participants. Pre-registration required.

Notes : Online course log-in details will be sent 24 hours before the course date. Cancellation policy: No refunds will be given for education courses. For cancellations with one week's notice, a credit will be applied to your account. With less than a week's notice, no credit will be given. No new credit will be issued if the cancelled course was purchased using prior credit. Program cancellation by the VBGA due to Public Health Restrictions will result in education program credit equivalent to the value lost. Credits must be used within one year from the date issued.
