Guelph Youth Music Centre
The Guelph Youth Music Centre offers a variety of programs, for everyone. The Guelph Youth Music Centre operates the Guelph School of Music.
Guelph School of Music (GSM) operated by the Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) offers weekly private lessons in piano, guitar, voice, violin, saxophone, clarinet, flute, and theory. Our private lessons are open to students of all ages and levels and are tailored to meet the needs of individual students. Based on student's goals, interests, and learning style, lessons may follow the Suzuki piano method, the Royal Conservatory of Music syllabus, or be personalized without a predefined curriculum. We have a faculty of highly qualified, professional, and experienced teachers who provide high excellence in music education. We teach with care and compassion, giving students the tools and knowledge to learn, excel, and enjoy their music study. Click this link to see our current faculty.
In addition to weekly private lessons, students are encouraged to participate in five performance opportunities throughout the academic year. There are three informal performance classes and two formal recitals. Performance classes are hosted by each private studio teacher and are designed to help students prepare for upcoming recitals or festival performances, learn performance etiquette, and assist in managing performance anxiety. Teachers also prepare interested students to perform in the Kiwanis Music Festival and Royal Conservatory of Music examinations.
Lessons are held weekly at the GYMC. The facility is equipped with pianos however, students studying other instruments must bring those instruments to weekly lessons. If you need help sourcing instruments, please get in touch with GYMC staff. Students are responsible for notifying their teacher if they will be late or absent from a lesson. Teachers are not required to offer make-up lessons that are missed by students, however, if a teacher is absent, they will provide an optional future date for a make-up lesson.
Completing the initial registration form does not confirm your lesson time. The GSM does its best to provide everyone with their first choice of lesson day/time/teacher, however, scheduling is done on a first-come-first-serve basis and based on teacher availability.
The annual school fee and lesson deposit are due upon registration. Once the student's lesson has been scheduled, you will receive a follow-up confirmation with the lesson day, time, teacher, and final payment instructions. Lesson fees can be paid in either one lump sum, or 8 monthly installments (September-April).
Registrations received once the academic year has started will have lesson fees pro-rated based on start date.
