Description:

Explore local parks and your artistic side while learning how to master photography.  Each week we will meet at a new park, share our photos, learn how to best compose a photo, basic camera functions and more. Try out nature photography, photojournalism, freestyle and more. Open to students with access to any digital camera or smart phone. The schedule of which park you will be at each week will be emailed to you after registration.

Art Gallery on August 7th, 6-8pm

• Invite your family and friends to join us for our art gallery reception at the Irwin Community Center. Our favorite photos from all of our photo shoots will be on display, along with artwork from the park district’s summer classes.

Required age: 8 - 13 on the day of the activity

Notes: Week 1/June 19: Meet at Park Place to learn about how to compose the best photograph using angles, zoom and the rule of threes. Then head outside to test your knowledge in Flossmoor Park. Week 2/June 26: Nature Photography. Meet at Irons Oaks to learn the best ways to photograph nature then head out to snap some photos of birds, bees, water and trees. Week 3/July 3: Abstract Photography. This week we head to Homewood Estates Park to try our hand at abstract art. Week 4/July 10: Photojournalism. Meet at Millennium Park where you will let your photos tell a story. Set photos to music. Illustrate a tale. This week you'll use images to create a message. Week 5/July 17: Street and Architectural photography. We're back at Park Place this week for a quick lesson before we hit the streets of downtown Flossmoor. Week 6/July 24: Portrait photography. Meet at Goldberg Park in Flossmoor where we will take pictures of each other while we pose for our most fabulous photo shoot yet. Week 7/July 31: Freestyle photos and Gallery preparation. Meet at Irwin Center where we will have a final lesson in photography, select photos for our gallery event and then head out to take photos in the park. Week 8/Aug 7: Invite your family and friends to join us for our art gallery reception at the Irwin Community Center from 6-8pm. Our favorite photos from all of our photo shoots will be on display, along with artwork from the park district's summer art classes. In the event of inclement weather, classes will take place at Park Place. Bring a water bottle and a charged phone/camera to every class.
