The Introduction to Celestial Navigation Seminar will introduce you to what Celestial Navigation is all about. Using a sextant, taking sights, using a Nautical Almanac and completing the calculation process using Sight Reduction Tables in order to Plot your position.
The Sail Canada Celestial Navigation course can be taken as a general interest course for those without navigation experience or as continuation of the Sail Canada Navigation certifications.
Topics covered include positioning using the sun, the moon, and selected stars. Methodology taught is H.O. 249. The course focus is on the practical for real use on the water and on shore. Topics will include some history and theory, the importance of time, how to use a sextant, real sights (noon and sun) and pointer stars.
