Zvi Luria is a healthy man in his seventies, a retired engineer who lives in Tel Aviv with his wife of 48 years, Dina, a pediatrician who cares for both Israeli and Palestinian children. But now Tvi is showing signs of early dementia, and is struggling to maintain his wits, his dignity and very identity. To keep his mind sharp, he assists a young engineer involved in a secret military project: a road to be built inside the massive Ramon Crater in the northern Negev Desert. However, living secretly on the proposed route amid ancient ruins is a Palestinian family, who is under the protection of an archaeological preservationist. Zvi rises to the occasion, proposing a tunnel that would not dislodge the family. But when Dina falls sick, circumstances begin to spiral . . . This suspenseful and poignant story is from internationally acclaimed Israeli author A.B. Yehoshua. This virtual program will be recorded.

Denise Drabkin is a retired library manager who thoroughly enjoyed a 40-year career in public libraries. Denise worked in three different library systems on two continents, including the Toronto Public Library, and is a firm believer in libraries as the great levelers on the playing field of life. Denise is a long-time member of the Miles Nadal JCC Book Club, and has given several reviews, including Sleeping with the Enemy: Coco Chanel’s Secret War; A Long Petal of the Sea; The Promise and The Island of Sea Women. We are delighted to welcome Denise as our book reviewer for this season!
