Description:
Drama | France | 2024 | Director: Pascal Bonitzer | French w/Eng subtitles | 91 min A ripped-from-the-headlines thriller from celebrated French filmmaker Pascal Bonitzer. This closely observed drama follows hotshot modern art appraiser André Masson whose cool and calm demeanor is upended by the discovery of a long-lost work by Egon Schiele. This painting by the celebrated Austrian artist had gone missing decades earlier following its confiscation by Nazi officials. Auction is a taut thriller bringing together an ensemble cast that includes the appraiser, his less-than-reliable assistant, and the working class bloke who sets the narrative in motion upon realizing that his erstwhile innocuous wall art is in fact a masterwork. This deliciously gripping film focuses on transformative relationships and leaves hope that there are good people out there.
