Description :

Some infectious diseases have been making humans sick for thousands of years, while others are brand new. Where do emerging diseases come from?  What can we do to prevent or mitigate another pandemic?

Feb 16:  Bacteria, viruses and other disease-causing organisms

What kinds of organisms cause disease?  How are viruses different from bacteria? How did modern ideas of germs, sanitation, and disease prevention develop? How does vaccination prevent disease?

Feb 23:  Plagues of the past, present and future

The Black Death, smallpox, influenza and other pandemic diseases have killed hundreds of millions. Even with modern medical technology, COVID-19 still killed millions. Where do COVID and other emerging diseases come from?  What could we do to prevent them, or at least reduce their impact?
