 Langley Campus

Lieu : Langley Campus | 20901 Langley Bypass, Langley, BC, V3A 8G9

Description :

There may be some controversy about when humans came into existence, maybe even about what type of species constitutes a human being. For our purpose, we do not need to answer these questions. We clearly understand that religions came into existence many years after the evolution of man. Man created all these religions. (Of course, some may differ with that statement as well.) Jas Sandher will help us look at the major religions in this world, their chronology and their sizes.

Are there criteria we can use to say which one is better than the other?  Hinduism is the oldest religion; does that mean it is better than the others? Christianity has the largest population of all religions; does that mean it is better than the others? Do we even have to decide which one is better? Maybe each religion serves best those who practice it, without harming anyone else.

Following a brief introduction of the major religions (Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Sikhism) Jas will discuss:

  • Conflicts due to religion
  • The role of religion in our society
  • Whether religion is practiced the way it is written
  • As an individual, what is our role in society?

Jas Sandher was born in India, moved to England at age 9 where he was educated through university, then to San Francisco where he got an MBA in Finance, and then to Canada where he works as a realtor. He finds human behaviour fascinating and enjoys delving into philosophical questions.
