Description:

Explore a variety of surface decoration techniques.  Make your own clay stamps to allow you to make pots with unique designs!   This class is intended for students who have taken at least one beginner class and are familiar with the clay medium.

You will be instructed in these techniques and make a number of simple hand built projects to showcase them - trays, plates, tiles, pendants, etc. following the course outline below:

Week 1: Making bisque stamps and prepping pieces for surface application.

Week 2: Slip mixing, making test tiles, texture experimentation.

Week 3: Experimenting with bisque stamps, making textured pendants, making stencils.

Week 4: Slip painting techniques (using stencils, slip trailers etc.).

Week 5: Glaze experiments, wax & other resists, prepping pieces for sgraffito and mishima.

Week 6: Mishima, prepping for sgraffito, critique.

Week 7: Sgraffito.

Week 8: Independent project - last wet clay day.

Week 9: Glazing.

Classes are 3 hours each for 9 weeks.
