Description:

Bronze Cross (20 hr plus exam.): begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.

An examination is required to pass Bronze Cross, and will be administered on the last Friday of Class.

Notes: Due to the unpredictable nature of the weather, we recommend participants dress for the weather, such as a wet suit if it is going to be cold, or a UV shirt if it is going to be hot.  We recommend participants bring their own water bottles and towels, and wear sunscreen for every lesson. The Splash Pool does not provide towels, sunscreen or goggles.  Cancellations of swimming lessons will not be allowed within 3 days of the swimming lesson starting. All cancellations and refunds are subject to a 10% administrative fee deduction. In the event you cannot attend all of your lessons due to illness, you will be given a pro-rated refund for the classes you miss, minus a 10% administrative fee for the total cost of your lesson.  In the event of increment weather, classes will be held under the Pergola or in the Splash Pool building. Swim instructors will focus on water safety theory with students.  In the event a class must be cancelled by staff due to unforeseen reasons, the purchaser will receive a credit to apply towards a new class, or a full refund.  Students must complete every skills 3 times at a satisfactory level to pass the level. 

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Bronze Medallion and Lifesaving Society Emergency or Standard First Aid certifications (need not be current) or EFA or SFA from an approved agency.
