Ages 5-11 (Kindergarten to Elementary school age) 

Description of Field Trip: Gardening is educational and develops new skills including: Responsibility– from caring for plants. Understanding– as they learn about cause and effect (for example, plants die without water, weeds compete with plants) Self-confidence – from achieving their goals and enjoying the food they have grown.

We will visit The Triangle Oasis Farm for a tour. Kids will engage with the plants and gather greens to make a salad to accompany their lunch. We will pot seeds in soil for each child to take home and nurture.

Field trips are momentous times in a child’s life. It allows them to enjoy a change of scenery and spend time outside of the classroom doing more hands-on learning. Our goal is to provide children with an engaging and educational experience, giving them exposure to our community and its resources. Creating hands-on, memorable experiences. 

Schedule/Rhythm: 

• 9:00am Arrival: free play inside or outside 
• 9:15am Circle time: staff and participant introductions. Staff explains plan for the day. 
• 9:30am Stretching/Exercise/Mindfulness 
• 9:45am Story time: Staff reads appropriately themed book
• 10:00am: Snack time (snack brought by participants) 
• 10:15am: Adventure related to theme. Talk about concepts from the book along the adventure.  
• 11:45am: Lunch (brought by participants) and free play 
• 12:30pm: Activity, experiment and/or craft related to daily theme 
• 2:00pm: Pick-up

Notes: Children should dress appropriately for indoor and outdoor play. We recommend layers and sneakers. Please send your child with snacks, lunch, and a drink. We recommend a refillable water bottle. Drop off at 9:00am. Pick up at 2:00pm. Location: Chisolm Park Pavilion, 324 Hunt St., Salida.
