Virtual - Intro to Coding: Platform Games
4 days program

Monday to Thursday, 1:00 PM – 4:00 AM, Dec 20th – Dec 23rd

Software engineers apply the Engineering Design Process to design and create software, and they have
few limitations to what they can create within the virtual world of computers. One of their many job
opportunities includes video game programming. A video game programmer uses their knowledge as a
software engineer to manipulate a program and create a game. The software they use can vary widely,
but the logic and foundation behind their creations are related. In this class, we will be exploring a few
of the key concepts that software engineers use to create the awesome games that we enjoy playing at
home. Some Examples of Software Engineering in action are:
 Systems software developers create the operating systems that control most of the consumer
electronics in use today
 Computer hardware engineers are important partners for software engineers, because they
research, design, develop, and test computer systems and components such as processors,

circuit boards, memory devices, networks, and routers that enable software engineers even
more flexibility in their programming
 Creating a full-featured video game requires many different types of programmers including
artificial intelligence programmers, graphics programmers, physics programmers, and user
interface programmers

Papa’s Pizzeria is the busiest it has ever been. In Electronic Game Design: Pizza Delivery, we will create
our own version of a platform game that will require players to collect ingredients, make pizza and serve
all of the hungry costumers. We will use the Engineering Design Process to create a storyboard to
outline the rules of play and characters for our game. Then, we will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5® to bring
our storyboard to life with programming. At the end of the class, everyone takes home a working
Windows-compatible game.
