Virtual -Intro to Coding: Shark Attack
5 days program

Monday to Thursday, 1:00 PM – 4:00 AM, Dec 27th – Dec 31st

Software engineers apply the Engineering Design Process to design and create software, and they have few limitations to what they can create within the virtual world of computers. One of their many job opportunities includes video game programming. A video game programmer uses their knowledge as a software engineer to manipulate a program and create a game. The software they use can vary widely, but the logic and foundation behind their creations are related. In this class, we will be exploring a few of the key concepts that software engineers use to create the awesome games that we enjoy playing at home. Some Examples of Software Engineering in action are:

  • Systems software developers create the operating systems that control most of the consumer electronics in use today
  • Computer hardware engineers are important partners for software engineers, because they research, design, develop, and test computer systems and components such as processors, circuit boards, memory devices, networks, and routers that enable software engineers even more flexibility in their programming
  • Creating a full-featured video game requires many different types of programmers including artificial intelligence programmers, graphics programmers, physics programmers, and user interface programmers

Watch out! It’s a shark attack! In Invader Defense: Shark Attack, we will create our own version of an invader defense game that will allow us to protect a coral reef from hungry sharks. We will use the Engineering Design Process to create a storyboard and outline the rules of play for our game. Then we will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5® to bring our storyboard to life with programming. At the end of the class, everyone takes home a working Windows-compatible game.
