Description:
Payment is to be made directly to teacher (see payment method). $50 is due at registration date, and the remaining balance is due on August 9th. Level A (4th-6th grades)–The I.E.W. writing class is based on Andrew Pudewa’s Institute for Excellence in Writing (http://iew.com) curriculum. Your student will practice many things in the areas of both structure and style: taking notes, speaking from notes, writing from notes, and adding special words and phrases (‘dress-ups’, ‘sentence openers’, ‘decorations’, etc.), that will make his/her writing much more interesting. We focus on both creative and academic writing along with some vocabulary. We will learn the grammar rules by editing a story throughout the year. Although I strive to make this class enjoyable and fun, it is definitely academic and works best for students who have some measure of maturity. Parental involvement at home is required for support, oversight, editing, and typing. Recommended prerequisite is that the student be familiar with the following parts of speech: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions. We will use the following books–All Things Fun and Fascinating–student book and Fix-It! Grammar–book 1–The Nose Tree. Access to a computer in order to type some assignments, a dictionary, and a thesaurus are needed. This class will meet longer than the 10 weeks each semester because it is considered an academic writing class. Instructor: Charyl Martell Contact: givenmanyblessings10@gmail.com Cost: $180.00 / semester Prerequisite: Any Level A class Note: This class will meet longer than the lower grade 10-week session because it is considered an academic writing class. Payment Method: cash or check-payable to Cheryl Martell on the first day of class.
