Description:

Join Mrs. V and get ready to read great stories, learn how to write about those stories, and write them well! This class will serve to prepare your students for high school English classes. Using the ideas from Brave Writer and Moving Beyond the Page curricula, students will find confidence in their reading and writing abilities. We will work on reading comprehension and understanding how literature, writing and grammar all work together as we read well-written literature. We will also have quizzes and group work assignments. We will have a great time learning about how writers write and becoming writers ourselves too!

Parental Responsibility: You are not expected to be involved in the actual completion or correction of assignments unless you want to be. However, please exercise oversight to make sure that your student is completing assignments and turning them in. You may want to have access to the Google Classroom too!

Tentative list of books we will read:

  • The Cay by Theordore Talyor

  • The Boy Who Saved Baseball by John H. Ritter

The first three weeks we will work on short stories and grammar. You will be notified prior to beginning our first novel.
