Description:

The Bible is the most important book ever written, and the most direct revelation of God for humans. Yet, the Bible is a difficult book to read and understand. Written over thousands of years, by dozens of different authors, in times and places vastly different from ours. How is one to make use of God's written revelation? The "What's in the Bible" class will examine the Bible book-by-book and discover the essential elements that are important to the Christian:

  • Main Characters - Who is in the book?
  • Main Events - What happens in the book?
  • Part of the Central Message - What does the book add to the Bible's overall message?
  • Historical Setting - Where did the book take place? What was it like?
  • Literary Genre - How was the book written? What styles were used?
  • Theological Significance - What does the book say about God and His will?
  • Interpretive Challenges - Which verses or ideas in the book are difficult to understand?

By the end of this course, students will no longer look at the books of the Bible as strange and disparate pieces of literature, but a singular story given to Mankind by their Creator.

Students will need to bring:
