This course is designed for Jr. High school students that plan to take Spanish 1 the following year. Minimum of 6 students to hold the class​.

​STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

A syllabus is provided to follow and keep track of assignments, quizzes, and tests.​

  • Bring an attitude of learning, respect, discipline and attention

  • Attend class weekly and on time

  • Maintain a three ring binder to hold material distributed in class, lined paper to take notes

  • Review vocabulary orally on a daily basis to obtain a greater benefit from this class

  • Cell phones must be turned off and put away. No gum or food in class

  • Completing scheduled daily assignments will result in greater success!​

VOCABULARY

  • Correct pronunciation will be emphasized
  • Cultural greetings and common polite expressions
  • Conversations, the weather, days, months, seasons, questions, affirmative and negative formats
  • Numbers: 0 – 2,000,000
  • Names of common foods, drinks, art and artists, famous people, family members and customs in Hispanic
  • culture, literature, music, etc.
  • In class, with friends, at home, shopping for food, clothes, school supplies, eating out, sports, etc.

GRAMMAR and PRONUNCIATION

  • Reading, separation of syllables and pronunciation, diphthongs, accent rules
  • Gender of Spanish nouns
  • The definite and the indefinite article
  • Personal subject pronouns
  • Conjugation of irregular verbs in the present: to be, to like, to give, to go, to have, to have to, to want, etc.
  • Telling time, make comparisons, question words: qué, quién, dónde, cuál, cuándo, porqué, cómo
  • Conjugation of some regular, and stem changing verbs in the present indicative
  • Singular/ plural. Capitalization. Adjectives, pronouns. There is, there are, etc.
  • Students will be introduced to some Hispanic culture through readings, songs and games.
