Description:

This class focuses on developing the dancer's musicality and coordination through creative play, songs, action rhymes and storytelling. The work done in this class helps develop fine-motor and locomotor skills, coordination, and spatial awareness. The program is also used to build a base for future dance classes. The classes are structured around a specific theme - we usually go on a trip somewhere (i.e., to the zoo, beach, etc.), and most of the exercises relate to that theme. While we sometimes offer a combined Pre-school 1 and 2 class, we generally keep them separate because teachers follow a specific lesson plan
developed for each level. In pre-school 2, greater emphasis is placed on spatial and rhythmic patterning, strength building and memory work

Notes: Clothing Requirements - * Students who participate in the yearend recital WILL NEED the shoes listed below for the performance. This may also apply to their tights depending on the costume chosen for their class. OPTION 1: Leotard of choice; ankle socks or ballet tights (pink, or may match their skin tone); ballet slippers (pink, or may match their skin tone); ballet skirt is optional (colour of choice) OPTION 2: Any fitted t-shirt or tank top of choice (plain preferred); shorts or leggings; ankle socks, ballet slippers (black, or may match their skin tone). PLEASE NOTE, while options 1 and 2 do line up with traditional female and male dance uniforms we do not enforce any gender norms at Jay9 Dance Centre. Students may wear whichever option they feel most comfortable in, and which allows them to be their most authentic self.
