Description:

This class combines Modern and Contemporary dance. Modern dance is a theatrical dance form that is less formal than classical ballet and more abstract than many other styles. It focuses on using the body as an expressive instrument, as well as creating patterns by moving through space. Teachers use elements from both the Graham and Limon methods. Contemporary dance incorporates elements from many dance forms, along with the teacher's individual style of movement. It focuses on moving in new and exciting ways while developing each dancer's individual voice.

*** Students have the option to participate in our year-end Recital. If they decide to take part in the performance, a costume payment would be required prior to Dec. 15, 2023. ***

Notes: Clothing Requirements - * Students who participate in the yearend recital MAY NEED the tights listed below depending on the costume chosen for their class. OPTION 1: Black tank-style leotard (i.e. – Capezio #201); black footless/convertible tights, leggings or dance shorts; bare feet; bear paws/foot Undeez are optional - Students who take ballet on the same evening may wear convertible pink ballet tights rolled up OPTION 2: Any fitted t-shirt or tank top (white or black preferred); black shorts, leggings, or dance pants; bare feet; bear paws/foot Undeez are optional Hair: Ponytail (pulled back and off the face for short hair) PLEASE NOTE, while options 1 and 2 do line up with traditional female and male dance uniforms we do not enforce any gender norms at Jay9 Dance Centre. Students may wear whichever option they feel most comfortable in, and which allows them to be their most authentic self.
