Third Age Learning at Kwantlen - Kwantlen Polytechnic University Surrey BC V3W 2M8 CA

Start date: Wednesday, March 22 2023.

Schedule:

On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:50 AM

Location: Richmond Campus, Room 1730

Description:

When you visit a restaurant, what do you consider more: health or cost? How do greenhouse gas emissions enter into your equation? How do food choices affect climate change and how can you choose more sustainable meals?

Join Lighter Foodprint for a workshop filled with interactive discussions and activities, and leave with a clear plan to reduce the carbon emissions created by your diet.

Food production accounts for over a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions. By providing transparency on the carbon emissions of food by using menu labels, consumers will be able to make more climate-informed choices. A 2020 survey found that consumers were in support of carbon labelling on products across all countries, with two-thirds of consumers saying they think it is a good idea (The Carbon Trust, 2020).

Isabela Ortiz works at Voor Urban Labs, an urban design consultancy, focusing on projects related to Urban Indigenous Peoples and Governance in Canada. At Lighter Foodprint, she volunteers as the Partnerships Coordinator, where she coordinates and manages the outreach strategies.
