Description:

Nursery 1 BALLET

You love to dance around the house, especially when music is being played. Like a bird in flight, you're free. There is no technique but you have all the makings of a true dancer, you love to move!

Ballet class is the best place to start, to get to know your body, understand how it works and fuel your creativity. You will be inspired by learning that movements have names and a studio is a place to hone those movements. In the first lesson, you will meet every dancer's best friend 'The Barre.' You will initially try to swing on it, however you will soon learn how important the Barre is to the dancer.  You will learn dance exercises that are methods of training, performed to music - 'Positions of your feet,' Plies, Rises onto 'Demi-Pointes' and Port de bras will become your normal class routine. These will be followed by conditioning exercises, steps of elevation, and simple movements introduced with classical technique. Class concentration and dedication to learning is a natural transition in the class.  Music appreciation and improvisation delightfully spurs your creativity.  Finally, the ‘blocks' are frustrating but the look on your face when you complete your Classical Walks with the block still on your head is inspirational!

The Nursery 1 Ballet syllabus teaches children the basics of Classical Ballet and movement. In addition to simple barre and center practice exercises, the syllabus has creative themes to encourage class participation, socialization, focus, and confidence. Classes are designed specifically for the early development of physical motion, rhythm, and coordination. Children are guided through exercises and begin to learn about their bodies and how to move them safely and in developmentally appropriate ways. At the same time, children are encouraged to explore their own creative expression to music through dance movement.

Syllabus: Warm-Up, Barre, Floor and Center Practice, Skills Progressions, Music Appreciation, Dance Study, Showcase Routine, Cool Down, and Révérence.

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Uniform:

The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.
