Description:

Primary Foundation BALLET

Dancing is fun and we like to pretend we are little 'sylphides', but this year we have to start to get ready for the Primary PreTechnical level. There's so much more to learn this year, not just positions of the feet, but positions of our arms too! You will learn floor exercises for strength then you'll stand and learn to dance in the centre without the barre. This is to help us balance and learn about core strengths. We will continue to perfect our rudimentary movements with classical technique and yes, there are lots of new steps for us to learn including the 'balletic' polka which you will dance with a partner. You will be experimenting with dancing in different directions to give you a better understanding of your dance space. Music appreciation is important this year, as we start to develop natural rhythm through even the simplest steps and WOW, there are so many new words to learn and they're all in French. 'You just can't wait to start!

The Primary Foundation syllabus focuses on coordination, large motor skill development, listening skills, and musical, and spatial awareness. As a preparatory year for the Primary examination level, this curriculum provides students with a strong foundation in knowledge and use of the steps which will be developed with technique and performance in the following year. By the end of  PrePrimary, students will be able to articulate parts of the body and demonstrate awareness of positions of the body. They will be able to demonstrate control, coordination, elevation, and the use of appropriate movement dynamics. Finally, they will be able to respond to the elements of music and perform expressively.

Syllabus: Warm-Up, Barre,2 Floor exercises, 9 Center Practice exercises, Skills Progressions, Music Appreciation,  2 Dance Study, Showcase Routine, Cool Down, and Révérence.

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Uniform: The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.
