Junior JAZZ & TAP Combined Class

At the Junior level, students explore the basics of classical Jazz and Tap. Classes offer a dynamic environment full of learning opportunities and fun.

The Junior Jazz & Tap Syllabus introduces dancers to dance terminology, basic positions of the arms and feet, and basic travelling steps. In Jazz, students will be introduced to the concept of ‘isolations’ – a distinct movement of a single body part and enjoy various mini combinations. In Tap, students will develop a basic understanding of musicality working in the 4/4 time signature. In addition, they will execute steps at a variety of speeds including whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes.

Classes begin with warm-ups to prepare the body and help prevent injuries. This level teaches the basics of dance through creativity and introductory dance exercises. Our instructors create a disciplined, positive, and supportive environment where all students can discover the joy of accomplishment.

Combined Syllabus of Jazz and Tap Including Warm-Up, Barre, Floor and Center Practice, Skills Progressions, Music Appreciation, Dance Study, Showcase Routine, Cool Down, and Révérence. 

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Student COMMENCEMENT Showcase Gala - Friday, June 21, 2024

Student COMMENCEMENT - Saturday, June 22 - 13:00.  This is an important day for all students as it formally acknowledges a year of dedication and learning completion.  Please ensure your child participates in the milestone day!

Uniform: The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.

Prerequisites: Recommended for students between the ages of 54-60 months old. The student must be toilet trained to participate in this class. Please consult with Admissions for your personal Class Advisement.
