Junior BALLET:

The studio door opens and you rush into class on your 'demi-pointes'! Graciously placing your leg on 'Mr. Barre' you commence humming ‘Waltz of the Flowers,’ from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker while executing 'self-stretching' with perfectly stretched legs, pointed toes, and a lovely 'balletic' port de bras movement… Junior Ballet class has begun! Your interest has truly intensified at this level and you begin to take a more serious approach, yet you still have your moments of uninhibited childish pleasure. Dreaming of dancing on a big stage in a beautiful Ballet costume and let's not forget… lots of sequins! Only in the dance studio will you stand still for so long; confident in yourself, focused on your efforts, concentrating… with your feet in 1st position and your arms in ‘bras bas’! All that has previously been learned comes together in Junior Ballet. By year-end, you will find yourself on the edge of a 'plateau', then you will sauté off the edge and land in a perfect plié with your feet in 1st position!

The Junior Ballet syllabus develops basic movement skills, musical awareness, and creativity. Themed classes encourage class participation, focus, and confidence that prepare students for entry to the PrePrimary levels. Concepts such as classroom etiquette, dance relationships with others, relationships to the working space and stage, expressing emotions through movement, and pantomime are explored during the year. 

Syllabus: Warm-Up, 3 Barre Exercises, Port de bras, 7 Center Practice Execerises, 6 Progression Exercises, Music Appreciation, Dance Study Cool down, and Révérence.

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Student COMMENCEMENT Showcase Gala - Friday, June 21, 2024

Student COMMENCEMENT - Saturday, June 22 - 13:00.  This is an important day for all students as it formally acknowledges a year of dedication and learning completion.  Please ensure your child participates in the milestone day!

Uniform:  The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.

Prerequisites: Recommended for students between the ages of 54-60 months old. The student must be toilet trained to participate in this class. Please consult with Admissions for your personal Class Advisement.
