Primary JAZZ & TAP Combined Class

In Primary, students are eligible to participate in their first Jazz and Tap examinations with the British Association of Teachers of Dance. They are assessed by a BATD Examiner through observation of the performance of set exercises and dances. The Primary Jazz Syllabus aims to strengthen the student’s technique in the Jazz basics as well as in more challenging steps. In addition, this syllabus is intended to broaden the student’s knowledge of Jazz steps through Creative Combinations. Finally, through Barre, Centre, and Isolation exercises, students are introduced to body conditioning to develop strength. In the Primary Tap Syllabus, students progress to demonstrate more precise articulation of Tap steps with speed. In addition, this syllabus aims to solidify the student's understanding of eighth notes. Throughout the year students will continue to explore rhythm and counting in a variety of movements as well as develop simple coordination of the arms and feet. Upon successful completion of these BATD examinations, students are eligible to progress to the Grade 1 Jazz & Tap level.

Combined Syllabus of Jazz and Tap Including, Warm-Up, 4 Barre Execerise, 4 Floorwork Exercises, 2 Center Practice Execerises, 5 Creative Movement Execerise, 13 Creative Combinations, Skills Progressions, Music Appreciation, Dance Study, Showcase Routine, Cool Down, and Révérence. 

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Student COMMENCEMENT Showcase Gala - Friday, June 21, 2024

Student COMMENCEMENT - Saturday, June 22 - 13:00.  This is an important day for all students as it formally acknowledges a year of dedication and learning completion.  Please ensure your child participates in the milestone day!

Uniform: The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.
