Grade 4 BALLET

Following on from Grades 1-3, the knowledge and skills gained through successful completion of this program is a pre-requisite for RAD Vocational Examinations.

On completion of this level, the student will be able to demonstrate secure posture and correct weight placement while performing movements of increased complexity. In addition, they will be able to demonstrate a coordinated turning action with the correct use of the supporting leg and placement of the working leg. In Allegro, the student will show elevation with controlled landings in steps of increased complexity. In Free Movement, the student will perform more complex steps with free-flowing movement, use of space, and coordination of the whole body, showing a secure understanding of weight transfer, use of gravity, suspension at the climax of a movement, and controlled endings. They will also show the use of gravity and relaxation of the upper back to project movements into and through space.

In Character, the student will be able to perform more complex steps with a firm hold of the body, upper back, and head, correct arm and hand placement, use of fondu, articulated footwork, and use of space appropriate to the style. Finally, for those students who consider studying for their Technical Examination, Pointe Work will be introduced to these students.

Syllabus: Warm-Up, 5 Barre Exercises, Floor Practice, 3 Center Practice, Skills Progressions, 4 Allegro Exercises, Grand Allegro Enchainement, Choice of Classical Variation for Males/Females, Choice of Character Variation for Males/Females, Music Appreciation, Dance Study, Showcase Routine, Cool Down, and Révérence.

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Student COMMENCEMENT - Saturday, June 22 - 14:15.  This is an important day for all students as it formally acknowledges a year of dedication and learning completion.  Please ensure your child participates in the milestone day!

Uniform:  The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.
