Elementary BALLET

This is Year 2 of a 2 Year program.  This year, students will focus on learning their syllabus and strengthening their technique. A student who has successfully completed a course of study based on Elementary Ballet will be able to apply and demonstrate, through performance, a sound and established knowledge and understanding of the fundamental and relevant technique and vocabulary of Classical Ballet as well as its mechanics and purpose. In addition, they will be able to exhibit a mature approach to responding to and interpreting direction, spatial awareness, control, and coordination in a range of complex movement sequences. The student will also be able to demonstrate appropriate physical awareness, strength, and stamina in technical skills. Finally, they will be able to show an understanding of musicality for a range of rhythmical sounds, accents, and timings in their music, while also acknowledging the core aspects of dynamics, atmosphere, expression, and projection in performance.

Syllabus: Warm-Up, Barre Exercises, Port de Bras, Center Practice Exercises, Adage Enchainement, Allegro Exercises, Free Enchaînement, Pointe Work for female students, Choice of Variations, and Révérence. Students will also present a Showcase piece.

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Student COMMENCEMENT Showcase Gala - Friday, June 21, 2024

Senior DINNER - Saturday, June 22 - 17:00.  This is an important day for senior students as it formally acknowledges a year of dedication and learning completion. 

Uniform:  The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.

Prerequisites: Recommended for students 12 years of age - with prior experience, and up to 18 years for no experience. A pre-requisite of Grade 5 Ballet course of study is required. Please consult with Admissions for your personal Class Advisement.
