Elementary TAP

Elementary Tap is a particularly challenging year with many new complex steps as well as additions to the examination format. In previous levels, students have mastered the basic steps and rhythms of Tap and have begun to develop more challenging steps and combinations which will become important in future levels. At this level, students will progress with steps learned in Grade 5 including ‘Rolling Ripples’, ‘Pendulum Wings’, and ‘Timestep’ variations to include a ‘Pick Up and a Wing’. Music Improvisation is a focus at this level, giving students an opportunity to express their individuality with the freedom of movement. Barre, Basic Steps, and Baic Movements have been replaced with Set Amalgamations, Teachers' Amalgamations, and numerous routines. 

Upon successful completion of these BATD examinations, students are eligible to progress to the Elementary Tap level.

Tap Syllabus:  Set Amalgamations, Teacher's Amalgamations, 4 Routines, Examiner’s Amalgamation, Candidate Improvisation, Theory, Final Bow

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Student COMMENCEMENT Showcase Gala - Friday, June 21, 2024

Senior DINNER - Saturday, June 22 - 17:00.  This is an important day for senior students as it formally acknowledges a year of dedication and learning completion. 

Uniform:  The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.

Prerequisites: Recommended for students 12 years of age - with prior experience, and up to 18 years for no experience. A pre-requisite of Grade 5 Tap course of study is required. Please consult with Admissions for your personal Class Advisement.
