Associate BALLET

This is Year 2 of a 2 Year program.  This year, students will focus on learning their syllabus and strengthening their technique. In Associate Foundation, there are separate syllabi and examinations for male and female candidates. In the course of these qualifications, the student is expected to demonstrate an expansive range of vocabulary as defined by the syllabus content. The student must be able to demonstrate with ease complex exercises and technical proficiency throughout Advanced study. Further, they will be able to exhibit a mature, professional, and assured approach in responding to and interpreting direction, while performing with a high level of control showing a refinement of line, spatial awareness, and coordination. Female students will be able to perform a more complex range of movements en pointe with fluidity and control. Male students will be able to perform a range of movements with control, eloquence, vitality, and power in Allegro and turning sequences (enchaînements). All students will be able to demonstrate acute sensitivity to the rhythmical structures, melody, texture, and dynamic expression of the music. Finally, on completion of the level, the student will exhibit a high level of understanding of interpretation and expression colouring the performance while maintaining an assured and confident presence.

Female Syllabus:  Barre Exercises, Port de bras, Centre Practice and Pirouette Enchainement, Pirouette Enchainement, Adage Enchainement, Allegro Enchainements, Pointe Barre exercises, Pointe Centre Enchainements, Choice of 1 of 2 Variations, Révérence, In addition to the vocabulary listed for previous levels, students are expected to have a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary used in Associate Foundation Ballet.
Male Syllabus:  Barre Exercises, Port de bras, Centre Practice and Pirouette Enchainement, Pirouettes Enchainement, Adage Enchainement, Allegro Exercises, Choice of one of two Variations, Révérence, students are expected to have a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary used in Associate Foundation Ballet.

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Student COMMENCEMENT Showcase Gala - Friday, June 21, 2024

Senior DINNER - Saturday, June 22 - 17:00.  This is an important day for senior students as it formally acknowledges a year of dedication and learning completion. 

Uniform:  The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.

Prerequisites: Students must have successfully completed their Advanced 1 Ballet RAD exam and taken Advanced 2 Foundation classes Please consult with admission for class advisement. Students doing the exam program are required to register in ADVANCED 2 - BALLET Exam Lesson along with this class.
