Description:

Associate TAP

This is Year 2 of a 2 Year program.  This year, students will focus on learning their syllabus and strengthening their technique.

At this level, students are encouraged to be imaginative and creative in their performance as they take risks moving out of their comfort zones. The Associate Tap level is both challenging as the student is introduced to new routine styles and musicality as well as enjoyable, as the syllabus allows for the student to express their individuality through a broad range of movement, styles, and routines. At this level, students are introduced to the Rumba which is performed in the 2/4 time signature. In addition, students will also be introduced to ‘Stop and Tacit’ Time. Finally, students will execute their first ‘Change of Time Signature’ routine. The routine is challenging as it tests the student's knowledge and ability to alter between different time signatures. However, when executed successfully this routine is pleasurable to both the dancer as well as the audience. The Associate Tap Level is the first of three teacher accreditations of the British Association of Teachers of Dance.

Syllabus:   Warm Up, 5 Barre Amalgamations, 8 Centre Amalgamations, 3 Routines, Examiner’s Timestep Amalgamation, Candidate Improvisation, Final Bow

The prerequisite is B.A.T.D Advanced Tap or Equivalent

Performance: London has organized multiple performance and demonstration opportunities for students, to build confidence and to gain experience of dance outside of the studio.  Please ensure that you support your child in these opportunities as they are an important part of their dance training.

Uniform:  The visual appearance of a dancer is as much a part of the art of Dance as the movement itself. Classroom attire is particularly important. It must allow the dancer complete freedom to experience movement while maintaining safety. It must also allow the instructor and observer the opportunity to view the alignment of the body and the movement itself. At the London School of Dance, we maintain a strict policy regarding the wearing of regulation uniforms and correct grooming. Please see below for the required uniform for this level.
