Description:
This residency includes two months of MakerLabs membership, that will be valid from June 5th to August 4th. Classes will take place on the first 4 Wednesday evenings of the program, and the remaining time residents can work on their own schedule. June start*: * A staff member from MakerLabs will be in touch to arrange a meet & greet prior to the first class date. Expand your creative possibilities with technology! Creative Technology is a broad topic with many different approaches and definitions. Residents that complete this program will gain a solid foundation in electronics prototyping, soldering, CAD modeling, digital fabrication with 3D printing, and artistic expression through physical computing. Classes include: ● Soldering and electronic tools 101 Classes will be run as a project-build series with weekly exercises in between classes for residents to practice and refine their new skills. Schedule: Classes will take place on Wednesday evenings during the first month. During the first month, in between classes, residents will be guided through a build project that applies their newfound skills by creating an automated at-home plant watering system. This build will feature a microcontroller, soil moisture sensor, water pump, and be enclosed in a tidy project box that residents will design in Fusion 360 and 3D print. Materials for the first month project are supplied by MakerLabs as part of the residency package (potted house plant not included). In the second month you will work on your own self-directed, independent projects while receiving guidance and support from program coordinators and mentors, with access to electronics equipment, space, and materials. You will have the opportunity to develop individual projects and/or collaborate with other members of your cohort and build projects together. Throughout the residency, in addition to classes, there will be 3 hours of in-person support per week on Sunday afternoons, in which you can meet with the residency instructor for assistance and development of your project.
