Description:
All the world’s a stage! Using original characters and unique settings, students will brainstorm together, write, and perform an original theatre piece. Through group storytelling, theatre and improv games, students will learn the basic techniques of playwriting and acting, how to design props and scenery and learn to work as an ensemble to present an in-class performance at the end of the session. Best for Grades 1-5 New-to-Us teaching artist Kate McGrath is a veteran theatre educator and playwright. She has worked for Philadelphia Young Playwrights as a teaching artist for over 30 years, leading theatre and writing workshops in dozens of schools at all age levels, and is a three-time recipient of PYP’s Adele Magner Memorial Award. Additional teaching/directing credits: Darlington Arts Center, Theatre Horizon’s Autism Drama Program, Wolf Performing Arts Center, Walnut Street Theatre School, Walking Fish Theatre, The Shipley School, Holy Child Academy, Pennsylvania Performing Arts Academy among others. She holds a BA in Theatre from UNC-Chapel Hill, a MA in Theatre from Villanova, and has additional certificates from the Folger Theatre Conservatory, the London Theatre School, and the National Theatre Institute.

Required age: 5 - 11 on the day of the activity
Notes: Our After-School program is listed from 4-5:30pm, allowing all students to arrive on foot, by bus or drop off to make it in advance of instruction time between 4:30-5:30pm. Drop off students may arrive anytime after 4pm. WSSD can Bus to Us! SRS students may join our escorted walking bus and students from NPE & WES can bus over. Our adult and teen staff supervises students after school for snack, homework, games outside play time and to relax before classes begin promptly at 4:30pm.
