What *is* CSCL? 

CSCL - the Center for Semi-Conducted Learning is not a school! It is a weekly collection of kids and adults who plot their education in as intentional a manner as is relevant for each kid. Some kids need a little deschooling break from mainstream or traditional school & just need to be left alone. Some need a challenge to rise to. Some just want a place to play with friends, build a social cohort of kids who may or may not be their age, or make a constant stream of cardboard, hot glue, & googly eye projects until they're ready to do something else. 

We follow principles of self-directed, non-coercive education, which means that all of our daily activities (other than 2 short meetings & 2 short clean-ups) are opt-in. We will not make your child learn something they don't want to learn. We might remind them that they have agreed to complete some particular exercise or task (20 math problems on Khan Academy, maybe, or 3 paragraphs on geography, to make up something random) as part of an arrangement with parents. We will not, however, force your kid to read a book or learn something they're not interested in. You can't stop kids from learning; you can only put interesting challenges & information in front of them.

Prerequisites: All our programs are for kids 7-13 at the time they enroll. It is possible to make exceptions, and we're exploring adding programing for older kids.
