Description:
Don McNair For about 125 years, logging, sawmilling and wood manufacture have been important ways to make a living in the Okanagan. In that short time and in this small place, the forest industry regularly has been a subject of controversy as well as a trigger for crazy expenditures of energy and ingenuity. (Massive industrial waste often has been the origin of all three.) Much the same could be said about the industry across BC. Yet here, in the Okanagan, the industry’s experience does seem a bit “prophetic.” In a region celebrated not so much for wood as for fruit, gorgeous vistas, and a lovely climate, the forest industry has always had to fit into the economic parade, not lead it. This illustrated presentation is about a work in progress, not a finished publication. Memories and comments contributed by the audience will be most welcome.
