Description:

Kelowna Museum

The prominent display is Wolves – The Art of Dempsey Bob - an exploration of the works of one of the leading carvers of British Columbia’s Northwest Coast. Wolves are a source of inspiration for Bob Dempsey as he is from the Wolf Clan via matrilineal descent. His carvings combine traditional stories, characters and symbols along with influences from the modern world. Wolves, whales, eagles, ravens, frogs and more are depicted in bowls, masks, boxes and sculptures. This exhibition has had a cross-Canada tour and ends here in mid-February. At that time it goes back to museums and private collections. This is our chance to experience the artist’s development from his early days through to his late career masterworks.

From Wolves we move to new heights. All the Stars We Cannot See situates participants within a virtual sky activated by 25,500+ satellites orbiting Earth. It explores the expanse of satellite activity in space and sparks discussions about space colonization.

Next we will see an installation, scheduled to arrive in January, that examines the relationship which exists within outdoor recreation and tourism culture.
