Description:

Dancers will be introduced to the lyrical style of dance and learn a piece of choreography that will be used in the year end dance recital. Lyrical combines technique of ballet and jazz into a smooth flowing, expressive dance form. This is a NON-Competitive AP Class.

Your child will develop the following skills in this class:

• self expression and connection to the music
• many similar skills as in a jazz class but with the focus on fluidity, grace, and expressive movement
• floorwork and soft arm movements
• flexibility and strength training

Notes: GIRLS Dress Code: black biketard or black bodysuit and black shorts/leggings/tights, lyrical turners. BOYS Dress Code: fitted black t-shirt, fitted black shorts or pants, lyrical turners

Prerequisites: Students in Junior Lyrical are required to enrol in an age/skill appropriate AP ballet class (Junior 1 Ballet/Junior 2 Ballet/Junior 3 Ballet) or FP ballet class (Ballet 8-10). They are also encouraged (but not required) to take an age/skill appropriate jazz as supplementary training.
