Description:

This class is designed for older students who are interested in adding to their existing art skills and who want to challenge themselves with more involved art projects. Based on post secondary art educational models, this yearlong program will give a young artist the skills to excel in highschool art class, or to plan for tertiary education in the arts. They will gain confidence by learning how to create a full body of work, and also how to make collaborative art, therefore strengthening their community spirit. The class is mixed media, and includes conceptual art learning as a part of the artmaking process.

Your child will:

• Learn about artists, art movements and conceptual ideas that are linked to both.
• Choose the medium they are interested in to create their body of work.
• Make one collaborative 3D artwork to be displayed in a public space.
• Learn the basics of art writing, so they can practise making artists statements.

*1 month display in a public space of their collaboration. (Please note if the course is not completed, the student may not be guaranteed participation in the project)

Broken into two modules:

Sept-Jan: Painting/Drawing & 2D practices: Body of work + Artist statement

Feb-June: Clay & 3D practices: Collaborative Sculpture for display + Conceptual shared statement
