Description:

This is a beginner class that focuses on technique and a classical repertoire of moves, to prepare the student for the study of musical theatre dance. All dance classes incorporate techniques and choreography from a combination of styles, including ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, hip hop, tap, and ballroom. This fusion of dance is what makes musical theatre dancing so unique and spectacular to grace the stages of Broadway. This beginner class will lay the groundwork for success by emphasizing body alignment and form, centering and balance, gravity, and breath work while introducing basic dance moves, and practicing dance combinations. Class will begin in the center with technique, continue across the floor with leaps, jumps, and turns, and conclude in the center with a full combination to learn. The second half of the semester will also involve rehearsing a dance for the Spring Showcase, which will take place in April. Recommended dance attire - leotard, tights, or clothing student can move in, jazz shoes.

Notes: We will not have class on 1/16, 2/19, and 3/25 per the BVSD calendar. This class will perform in the Spring Showcase. Dress rehearsal - 4/26 Performance - 4/27 This class will not meet over BVSD spring break! Cancellation Policy: More than 30 days out from the beginning of class participants will receive a full credit for the class. There are no refunds. 30 days or less from the start of class, participants will receive a 50% credit and no refunds. Credits are only valid for 6 months.
