Early Bird - Register before Sunday, March 10th and receive a 5% discount. Registrations procssed Monday, March 11th and onwards are not eligible for the Early Bird discount.
Please read our below policies carefully. These policies are agreed upon when registering you/your skater. Failure to adhere to these policies can result in a withdrawal of you/your skater from our program(s).
Pre-CanSkate is for skaters aged 3&4 on the first class.
CanSkate is for skaters aged 5 and above on the first class.
All spots are first-come, first-serve.
Skaters must be registered online via Amilia to skate, there will be no walk-ins accepted. Due to insurance reasons, skaters will not be allowed to step on the ice if they are not registered. No exceptions.
If a program is full, you may add your skater(s) to the waiting list. Once a program is full, a spot opening up is oftentimes dependent on a skater switching sessions or cancelling their registration. If a spot becomes available, the first skater on the waitlist will be notified that a spot has opened up. This spot will be available for 24 hours before the next skater is notified and so on.
The Skate Canada Membership fee is a mandatory insurance fee that all skaters must pay to participate in any programs run by the Thornhill Figure Skating Club as we are a Skate Canada sanctioned club. This fee is non-refundable and not eligible for pro-rating. For more information regarding this fee, please visit www.skatecanada.ca
If your skater has purchased their Skate Canada membership at a different club for the 2023/2024 season please contact the office before you register for assistance at thornhillfsc@gmail.com. There will be no refunds or credits for Skate Canada memberships purchased incorrectly.
All payments must be made in full online via VISA or MasterCard, no offline methods of payments are accepted. No exceptions.
There is no level-specific registration for Pre-CanSkate or CanSkate. If your skater is returning to TFSC, we will have their level progression on file. If your skater is new to TFSC, we will assess them on their first class during their group lesson and placed into the appropriate level based on their skating abilities. If your skater has participated in a Learn to Skate program outside of TFSC, please forward their most recent report card to our CanSkate Co-ordinator at thornhillcanskate@gmail.com.
Refunds and credits are available as per the schedule below.
There are no refunds or credits for incorrectly purchased Skate Canada memberships.
Pro-rating is not available for our Spring 2024 season until Monday, April 22nd, 2024.
All session transfers are subject to a $30 administrative fee, per skater, per transfer, and can only be accommodated if there is room on the session and is appropriate for the skater's level. Session transfer requests must be submitted to the office via email at thornhillfsc@gmail.com.
There are no makeup classes under any circumstances.
Please note:
1. All refund and credits requests must be made to the office via email at thornhillfsc@gmail.com.
2. All refunds and credits are less the non-refundable Skate Canada membership fee.
3. All refunds and credits are less any classes that have run and any applicable administrative fees, as per the chart below.
4. Credits are non-refundable.
5. Doctor's notes must contain the date(s) in which the skater will be missing skating as well as a brief description of the illness/injury.

TFSC reserves the right to change the schedule without notice.
TFSC reserves the right to cancel sessions due to low enrollment. If this is the case, you will receive an email and be credited for the session less any classes that have run and less the non-refundable Skate Canada membership fee.
TFSC will only cancel sessions due to severe weather conditions or if the City of Markham and/or Vaughan close the buildings where the sessions are to take place. If this is the case, TFSC will announce the closure on their website and an email will be sent out to registered participants via Amilia. Credits/refunds will not be given due to severe weather unless the City of Markham and/or Vaughan has closed the building.
Coaches, volunteers, office staff, and program assistants are not responsible for supervision of skaters after their session has ended.
Parents/guardians are expected to stay inside the arena for the entire duration of their skaters' session in case of emergencies. Coaches, volunteers, office, and program assistants are not responsible for taking skaters to the bathroom or to get a drink of water.
The CanSkate Coordinator reserves the right to remove any skater from the ice who is disrupting the session.
In order to participate in the CanSkate program, skaters must have the appropriate equipment. For safety reasons, skaters will not be allowed to participate if they do not have the appropriate equipment. No refunds, credits, or make up classes will be given for failure to have the proper equipment. TFSC does not provide any equipment. Please ensure the clothing your skater wears is not too bulky and will not restrict their movement.
Skates – May be hockey skates or figure skates. Lace-up skates are preferred.
Plastic Protective Guards - To protect your blades while off the ice, we highly recommend protective guards. Skates should NEVER be stored with guards on as it can trap moisture and develop rust on the bottom of skating blades.
Soft Fabric Guards - To protect your blades while skates are not in use, we highly recommend soft fabric guards. These guards are specifically designed to wick away moisture from the blade and prevent rust.
Helmet – Skaters participating in the Pre-CanSkate/CanSkate program up to and including Stage 5 must have a CSA approved hockey helmet. All CSA approved helmets will have a sticker indicating its status. Bike and/or multi-purpose helmets are not permitted. For safety reasons, skaters who do not meet this rule will not be allowed to participate as mandated by Skate Canada. Skaters in Stage 6 may choose to not wear their helmet, however it is highly recommended.
Jacket – Skaters should wear a warm jacket/sweater. Winter jackets are permitted. Short sleeves and/or bare arms are not permitted.
Pants – Skaters must wear long pants. Snow pants that are not too bulky are recommended for new skaters. Skaters who are more advanced may choose to wear lighter pants, such as sweat pants or leggings. Leg warmers that do not hinder the skater’s movement are permitted. Proper figure skating dresses and/or skirts with tights are encouraged. Jeans, shorts, non-figure skating skirts/dresses or bare legs not permitted.
Gloves – Skaters must wear gloves. Hockey gloves are allowed. Skaters who do not bring gloves may purchase a pair from the office for $5. Shin pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and/or knee pads are not permitted.
By agreeing below, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to comply with the Skate Canada Privacy Code as provided and hereby request, and consent to, the registering of myself with Skate Canada.
By agreeing below and registering with a club or skating school and allowing yourself to be registered nationally with Skate Canada and submitting this form, you indicate your acceptance of all terms and conditions associated with the Skate Canada Privacy Code and expressly provide your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your confidential information to register you with Skate Canada in any capacity including, without limitation, as a Skate Canada registrant, coach or in connection with your affiliation with a skating club or skating school and to administer various services, such as Skate Canada programs, services and events, all as set forth in the Privacy Code. In addition, through the submission of form, you expressly consent to the sharing or exchange of your confidential information with Skate Canada affiliates, which includes your local skating club or skating school or provincial association or section, and with service providers.

The applicant agrees that the Thornhill Figure Skating Club and/or it's proprietors will not be held responsible for any accidents or losses, however caused and agrees to release the proprietors from all claims or damages which may arise as a result of or by means of such accident or loss.
Photo Waiver: The applicant grants TFSC the right for display or promotional purposes, the use of any photographs or videos taken of applicant & waives/releases and claim related to such use.
