Description:

Youth Program Internship - Spring 2024

(6 consecutive Fridays)

Start Date: Friday, February 2nd

End Date: Friday, March 8th

Schedule: 10am - 3pm, 1 hour lunch (12pm - 1pm)

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Complete California Safe Boating Course
  • Learn basic seamanship and sailing ability
  • Strengthen teamwork and leadership skills
  • Lay the foundation for a pathway to employment at TISC as a sailing instructor

Interns will be asked to:

  • Suit up in wetsuit (which they will pick out, and use for the duration of program)
  • Try out a variety of watercraft ie. Kayaks, Sailboats, Paddle Boards
  • Spend time in the water (with lifejacket)
  • Work as a team to operate a vessel as and complete groups tasks

All required gear will be provided by TISC

This internship will lay the foundation for a pathway to employment at TISC as a sailing instructor. Accordingly, it is a good fit for students who like to be outside and don't mind get their hands dirty. Ideally, participants have a moderate to high levels of water comfort as they will be in and around the water a lot; however, swimming in not required. Finally, students must be open to trying new things, working as a team, and operating slightly outside of there comfort zone.

Prerequisites: Qualifications:  Participants must have a moderate level of water comfort, be open to trying new things, and be willing to get wet every day working outside.
