FLEET / FACILITIES INTERN

 

The Treasure Island Sailing Center (TISC), a 501 c(3) non-profit community sailing center in San Francisco, is accepting applications for 16-week Fleet and Facilities interns for Spring 2024. Our Facilities Manager will mentor and guide you as you apply your learning.

  • This internship is 6 hours per week

  • This internship is a 10-16 week internship

 

TISC serves the community of San Francisco and the surrounding communities of the greater Bay Area. The sailing center allows boaters to launch and dock small boats such as dinghies, promotes California boater and waterway courses, and hosts sailing regattas (race competitions). 

 

During your season at TISC, you will gain a hands-on approach to how a marine facility and its fleet of boats are maintained. You will perform light construction and mechanical repairs, organize and clean the facility and fleet, support the forklift operation, set earthquake/fire mitigation, and process and collect recycling materials on the premises. Some groundskeeping work included. The intern(s) is in a supporting role under the guidance of the Fleet/Facility Director. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Offer friendly and professional customer service to all patrons, members, and guests.

  • Conduct oneself professionally and always maintain a professional image as a representative of TISC.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Heavy clothes (i.e., denim)

  • Closed toed shoes

  • Be aware of availability and your schedule, and communicate with your supervisor accordingly.

  • To be able to carry 30 lbs.

  • To be able to bend on knees

  • To be able to climb ladders

  • To be comfortable in confined spaces

  • Have computer skills

  • Hours: Fridays 

  • six hours shifts (9-3)

  • Duration: 16-18 weeks

Notes: It is open to students of all ages, although preference will be given to students in their third or fourth year of High School.
